Don't waste a trip being hungover! | Good Cents Guy

May 5, 2017

Hangovers suck. There is simply no other way to put it. Typically when I travel I don’t drink to excess, as I’m a big fan of maximizing my time in a new place and there’s nothing worse than being bedridden because of alcohol. With that being said, sometimes it just happens. Whether it’s a boys trip at all-inclusive in Mexico drinking pina coladas for breakfast or a night with the wife drinking craft beer at one of Portland's fine breweries, drinking can be fun.

As I get older, my hangovers have become more frequent. I simply can’t recover like I used to :(. To deal with this I’ve developed a simple routine that helps my recovery tremendously. I'll have a glass of water with every drink and I utilize 2 life savers.

The first one is Pedialyte... yes you read that correctly. The same drink that was designed for babies with diarrhea. It makes a lot of sense actually, it’s designed to re-hydrate you as quickly as possible by replacing electrolytes, zinc and sodium. Having less sugar than typical sports drinks, it is much easier to handle if your stomach is uneasy. My preference is the powder form. It’s super light, get's through security easily and weighs almost nothing so it can fit easily into your suitcase. I'll take one before I go out, one when I get home and one when I wake up in the morning. It really helps re-hydrate after a big night.

Next up is Party Smart. It contains the following: Andrographis paniculata, Vitis vinefera, Embelica officinalis, Cichorium intybus, Phoenix dactylifera, Phyllanthus amarus. Clinically studied in four published human trials to eliminate acetaldehyde, a byproduct of alcohol that is linked with morning discomfort after alcohol consumption and from my personal experience this product does help in making your morning a lot better. Judging by the reviews on Amazon, it works for a lot of other people also. My local Sprouts sells them, but they are typically cheaper on Amazon. The 10 pack usually a good value. The directions say to take one with your first drink, but I've found that it works well as long as you have it relatively early on in the night.

While, nothing will help you when you take 10 tequila shots in a couple hours, these 2 work really well for me and have helped me have a better morning many times. All I can say is Cheers! Feel free to share your hangover cure in the comments below!
